Born in Colima, Mexico, Dr. Castañeda has 18 years of experience in the tourism field. Dr Castañeda got appointed tourism minister of his home state of Colima on February 2016. Formerly Associate Director of tourism with Contorno Cosultants, some of his past responsibilities include: Deputy Director of Assessment in project valuation at FONATUR (National Tourism Development Trust), COO in the World Centre of Excellence of Destinations in Montreal, Canada. In CED he was responsible of coordinating and contributing to the creation of the System of Measures for Excellence in Destinations SMED, successfully applied in Europe, Asia, America and the Middle East. Director of the Mexican Tourism Board (CPTM) in Toronto and Montreal, Canada and Manager in the CPTM in Paris, France. Deputy Director of Macroeconomic Analysis in the Direction of National Accounts, Socioeconomic Studies and Prices at INEGI in Mexico, as well as analyst of socioeconomic project evaluation at Banobras, México. César Castañeda holds a PhD and a Master degree, with honors in Economic History from the École de Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris, France. He graduated in Economics at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in Mexico City. He obtained a Diploma in Promotion methods for Host Cities and Congress and Conventions work from the European Federation of Conference Towns (EFCT) in Istanbul, Turkey. Dr. Castañeda is fluent in Spanish, French, English, Italian and Portuguese. Keynote speaker in several conferences concerning economic and sustainable development, agricultural credit, excellence in tourism destinations, Destination Management Organizations, integration of the tourism sector, small and medium enterprises in the tourism sector, in more than 15 countries. Dr. Castañeda was part of the expert panelists of the 2010 National Geographic Geoturism survey.
